2017 Caddy IV 102 2.0TDI

Post by Vw caddy 4 irl » Fri Oct 16, 2020 11:50 pm

Hello ,
Thanks for this app it's brilliant , helps me be aware of what my driving is doing to the atmosphere :)

Just purchased the above van with 55k km on the clock. Only had it a few days and the dpf light came on.

Oil ash is 14.3 ,regens every 360 minutes at 150 km. Time is consistent , sometimes it's 130 km sometimes 200 km.

I'm concerned that something is causing the dpf to soot quicker , but I'm not a mechanic , the engine I feel sometimes is a little rough on acceleration.

Thanks for reading ,
Stay safe.

A comment from someone who owns your engine would be better, of course.

In my experience, when I drive for many weeks only in city, the distance since last regen is near 200km so I don't consider a problem your mileage between regenerations, unless you drove only in highways. But I've seen different results depending on the engine type, sometimes with very different values.

Have you already checked your ECUs error logs?

Hi ,
Thanks for your reply.

Just two historical errors , one was drive shaft sensor. Not sure of other one , think it was window control.

When I have regen it never goes to 0%. Usually stops at 10 %

Yesterday at about 50% , the reader suddenly showed 100% and active regen started when I was in city traffic ,last regen was 150km
Differential pressure suddenly rose to 80 while at 1000 revs.
It was strange , it was like the dpf had suddenly become blocked.

It's normal that regen finishes at 10%, it never reach 0% because would be too long (and expensive in term of fule conusmption).

It's not normal that the soot mass suddenly goes to 100%, this usually happens when the engine reaches the maximum accepted mileage or time since last regen, but this isn't your case.
The most probable reason is a sensor fault, the differential pressure is the common culprit. But these are only hypothesis based on hystorical data, a deep check is the best way to find the problem.

Hey thanks ,
Going to take the van to volkswagen ,

I'm getting 400hpa on the motorway when I put the foot down in 4th gear.

Maybe the sensor needs a good cleaning ,or the inlet is blocked a little.

Fingers crossed it's nothing major ,

Thanks
