VAG DPF - User Manual: Android Auto

Post by admin » Wed Jul 23, 2025 11:22 am

Starting from release 4.41.13 Android Auto is supported.
When your device is connected to Android Auto in car, you can see the VAG DPF icon available in the app list.

How to start
In this first release, commands within Android Auto are limited, you have to connect and start the communication from the Android device, then you can put the app in background and it keeps reading data from your car until you'll manually stop it or the OBD adapter will be disconnected for any reason.
If you start Android Auto app without any connection in Android app, you can't do anything.

Notification icon
To guarantee the correct functionality in background, the app now works as a service. To avoid the app closing by Android memory management, the app icon in the notification bar must be present. If you remove the notification icon, the app will close just like when you close it normally.

Layout type
Android Auto layout has 2 options that you can choose in the Android app options menu: 1 Tab and 2 Tabs.
  • 1 Tab: has only one page with all 12 parameters and you can scroll up/down to see them.
  • 2 Tabs: has 2 pages that you can select on top, each page contains 6 parameters only.
The choice depends on your car screen dimensions and your personal preference between click or scroll to see the other parameters.

Unfortunately, Android Auto layouts for IOT apps are heavily limited, I can only choose a list or a grid layout with few customization options. Hence I don't have any chance to create a nice graphic layout.

Commands
With 1 Tab layout selected, you'll see a button on top right that lets you start or stop the data reading (only when the OBD adapter is connected).
With either one or the other layout selected, you can tap on the first top left parameter icon to start or stop the data reading (only when the OBD adapter is connected).

Special icons
  • Soot mass icon
This icon becomes red when there is a soot burning in the DPF.
Inside the icon you can see some circles corresponding to the soot inside the filter. The number of circles depends on the soot filling rate: the higher the fill rate, the greater the number of circles.
  • Regen duration/status icon
This icon becomes red when a field regeneration is in progress.

Common/suggested usage
The current implementation doesn't permit to start the connection from AA screen, so the quickest solution is to enable the options "Automatically connect the adapter on start" and "Automatically start the data communication after connection" and simply launch the app from the smartphone, without anything else to click.
Of course you have to configure the app before, setting at least the bluetooth adapter and any other option you prefer.
With these settings, if you want to start the app avoiding the connection, you can long press on the icon and select "Don't connect".
