CAYC 1.6 TDI

Post by Juraj SK » Tue Apr 20, 2021 12:18 pm

I have 213000km and it seems to me that it often starts triggering regeneration at SOOT MASS Calc.g. 13.00 usually started for me at 21.00
can be the cause of the short route?
because at 13.00 soot Mass calc.g. I have about 11.80- soot mass measured which seems a lot to me ... Oil ash residue I have 61.53g
is the filter before the end of life, or are they the short routes?
Thank you for your response.

Have you checked what are the time and distance since last regen when the regeneration starts?

Today your engine starts to regenerate every time near 13 grams or it happens sometimes?

Now it regenerates every time it is 13 grams. Other times it regenerated when it was more than 21. 15g and end regeneration was mSs calc 4-5g

I see you've enabled the logging, you can easily verify what was the time and distance since last regeneration before the process started.
Or you can share the log here if you want.

Can you confirm your engine didn't receive a software update?

these are older regenerations.

These pictures are not useful because you can see the fields "distance since last regen" and "time since last regen" have already been reset after the regeneration completion.

The log file is usually saved in the "VAG_DPF" folder in the internal SD, if you didn't change it.

Yes it is.

But I don't find any issue in it, every regeneration started with correct soot mass values.
This is the list of the soot mass values just before the regeneration starting:
log.jpg
Maybe the regeneration you mention weren't logged?
Do you remember the days when they happened?

Considering only March and April 2021, I see:
  • a regeneration started with soot mass 21,36 grams and finished at 4,6 grams in the log "Save date(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss): 2021-03-20 15:21:03"
  • a regeneration started with soot mass 21,66 grams and finished at 6,38 grams in the log "Save date(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss): 2021-03-28 10:38:46"
  • a regeneration started with soot mass 24,12 grams and finished at 7,04 grams in the log "Save date(yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss): 2021-04-07 06:47:15"
Other lines contain soot mass values increasing normally.

I use "Field Regen. Request Status" to check when the regeneration is running (values different from 0 mean regeneration active) and "Soot Mass Calc. (g)" to check the soot mass accumulation.

I don't see anything wrong in this log.

I have one more question. please see today's log. Soot Mass Calc. the value is 12.02 and then it jumps to 21.30 don't do it do you know why? and the distance I made since the last regeneration is 140km only .. is this o.k?
well thank you.,

This is usually a symptom of a failure in some sensor, but it's impossible to know which one using my app.
You should ask for a full diagnostic check to an official service or to a good mechanic.

Your log is another confirmation that the soot mass measured value becomes a real usable value when there is a system failure, on the contrary, when everything works fine, that value is pretty useless because it's often negative and far from the calculated value.
As you can see, when the calculated value jumps to 21,3 grams, the measured value was growing regularly up to 21,22 grams and probably the ECU uses the measured value to force the regeneration. This is my guess.

Thanks for answer.

And the filter is not much to fill? Isn't that the mistake?
Thx.

It's difficult to know that.
The soot mass calculated can be wrong if some sensor provides wrong data that make the entire calculation wrong.
The ECU has internal diagnostic routines that give it information to understand if some sensor is faulty and consequently anticipates the regeneration.
The sudden jump you see in the calculated value is an example of this diagnostic, this is a way to force the regeneration. Obviously if the ECU understand that something is defective, it prefers to make frequent regeneration to avoid the risk of filter clogging and fire.

Is there any sensor in charge of soot mass measured g? I think it's a high value ... Is it possible that it will start regeneration? Well thank you.

In all the technical documentation I've found, I never read anything about the soot mass measured value. All diagnostic procedures refer to the soot mass calculated. Moreover the measured value gives weird data, sometimes negative and sometimes decreasing while the calculated value increases.
The only thing I've understood in the years thanks to the users feedbacks is that the measured value becomes useful in case the calculated value is wrong due to a sensor failure, in this case strangely the measured value becomes significant.
