Last release 4.41.13 brings Android Auto support, finally!

I've been focusing on a simple and stable layout reducing the number of functions to the minimum and consequently the risk of bugs.
Android Auto in-car allows apps installed by play store only, so the debug process have been limited to the emulator.

I open this topic to collect your feedback about how the app works in your car (hoping it works ...) and to receive advice for new functions or possible optimizations.

I'm also going to open a new topic in the "Guides and Manuals" section of the forum to better detail how AA works.

I noticed that the connection is only possible from the app on the phone and not directly from Android Auto. Is it possible to enable it on Android Auto?
Another thing I'd like to see on Android Auto is the DPF fill percentage (as shown in the app).
If it's not too much to ask, I'd also like to see the units of measurement for the various fields.

It should be possibile, but I preferred to don't be too ambitious in the first release. I already planned to analyze this option in the next releases.

Consider that the AA layout is very very limited. I can only follow the predefined template structure without any option to change, move or add anything. It's probably to avoid distractions with too complex graphics.

I tried to make alternative notifications using colors and different icons, but the result won't be like the Android app in any case. The current layout is quite miraculous, considering that most of the other IOT apps I saw use the standard list layout with simple rows for every parameter.

For next release I'm going to study further icon behaviors to simulate the most important information like the Android app.

Would it be possible to arrange tiles in a custom order? And have this display order of tiles also be preserved in Android Auto?

Technically yes, but it's one of the functions that I've always avoided, also in the android app, to keep the app easier to modify. My first target is the usefulness of the information, not the graphics or the convenient functions.

Yes, the connection can be be started directly from AA in next release, the new function is in the code and it works.

Everything is ready, I'm in the final test phase that takes some more time because I updated some part of the code to fulfill the mandatory google requirements hence I have to perform additional checks with different devices.
You know, my development speed is not comparable to that of a professional software company has, anyway, it's coming soon

after the update to ver.4.45.16 I can't start the app from Android Auto. When I press connect on the car's screen, nothing happens. If I start the app from the phone, everything works correctly. I’m asking if the app needs to be configured differently.

Can confirm that nothing happens when pressing the Connect button from Android Auto infotainment screen in the latest version. But I'm happy to see that the annoying error message that appeared every time when connecting from the phone is not present anymore.

I'm receiving the same bad feedback from other users, it's strange because both with the emulator and with my friend's cars, everything works fine.
I need to check again.
The android fragmentation is an absolute mess for every developer.

Just a question for you: when you press connect on the android auto screen, what happens on the mobile screen? Nothing or the app at least tries to connect then fails?

Thanks a lot for all the effort you put into this! For me nothing happens on the mobile screen when pressing Connect on the Android Auto screen. That's with Vivo X300 Ultra/Androids 16. If there is anything I can do to help diagnose the issue just let me know.

I'm currently stick waiting for google to solve an issue in android auto server that deny all developer apps to be launched on the android auto test HUD, also using developer mode.

In the meantime I try to find issues in the code.

Found the issue: the broadcast message naming wasn't matching between AA and the smartphone app, so they wasn't able to communicate.
Now should be solved.

It uploaded the new version 4.46.17 with the fix, I hope they will take less than 5 days to publish it like they did last time

Hi Admin,
with the new version I can launch the app directly from AA (thanks). But now I have another problem: when I drive, the display goes dark and I'm warned that I can't interact while the car is moving.

Confirming that the so can now be started from the infotainment which is great! However, as clodi says, no data will display when the vehicle is in motion, in that case only the warning message will appear. As soon as you stop though (e.g. on red light or the crossroad) the data will display normally. I'm not sure if anything can be done about it since I assume this is the limitation of Android Auto and that only some app categories can be operated while the vehicle is in motion. It's unfortunate since this limitation mostly defeats the purpose of the app.

Ok thank you for the info, I didn't notice as I never really used it on the infotainment before as it required to start it on the phone anyway. But I guess it's good as there is still a chance it can be fixed. And btw. admin, if there is a chance to implement a feature that will allow to disconnect from the infotainment as well as connect that would be great.
