Opinion about dpf

Post by Nelson Viana » Mon Feb 17, 2025 3:30 pm

Hi there,
I just want your opinion about the condition of my car's DPF.
Is everything ok? (Polo 1.4 TDI 2014)
My main concern is how soon the particle filter will need to be cleaned or replaced

Thank you much

Nelson

The "official" parameter is the oil ash filling percentage, 60% in your engine. When it'll reach 100%, you should replace the filter.

Actually the best way to understand the health of the filter is monitoring the distance since regenerations to understand if it drops to values that you consider too low.
For example, a new car can regenerate every 300km if driven mainly in city; if after 250.000 km you see this medium value dropped to 150km you can decide to replace or clean the filter because those too frequent regenerations increase the fuel consumption and degradate the oil quality over your limit fo tolerance.

Take into consideration that the the oil ash limit is a value beyond which the risk of fire is concrete. Anyway, I know many people who continue to drive with oil ash over the limit, accepting the risk. It's your decision.

Thank you so much for your reply,

I will take your suggestion into account to avoid problems and when the time is right, I will take the car to the auto repair shop to clean the filter

Regeneration is being done between 250-300 km (city and mostly highway)

Lasts more or less 10 minutes above 2,000 rotations (based on the last 3, since I have the app)
