Some engines turn on consumers to increase engine load during regeneration.
Do you know if VW engines ignite anything? Rear view mirrors, heated rear window, glow plugs or something else?

I don't have evidence of this behavior, but I know that it was a common practice.
It probably depends also on the engine type, for example a big 2.0 TDI should need less aids than a 1.6 or 1.2 TDI.
